Dear Parents,
THE LAST UPDATE OF THE YEAR! Happy and sad thoughts about that.... I hope that this year has gone as well for you as it has for me. I have tried my best to be fair, supportive and patient with each situation that arises. I've tried several times to set up a survey to ask for feedback, but am struggling with the wording. So, instead, I would just ask if you would send me an email... in the email give me one positive comment and one piece of constructive criticism. If you have a second, I would love to hear from each of you, if you don't mind. (My email is ms.maxson@st-dennisschool.org)
This week we will be cleaning and reorganizing. Please send in some trash bags so your child can unload his/her locker and take stuff home. We will have "regular" classes on Monday and Tuesday, so they do still need their supplies for a couple more days.
Wednesday is our end of the year trip. If you can or want to join us, we would LOVE to have you!!!! Please meet us at school around 8:30 to get the free pass for your car. If you have questions or concerns, let me know... There will be NO swimming or wading in the water. They may hike, but must be with an adult (which is why we need some chaperones).
Thursday morning we will celebrate mass at 10am. PLEASE join us if you would like. We would love to have you celebrate the end of the year with us. Students will be excused at 11:30.
I have so enjoyed having your child in class. I am blown away that we are in this last week and that they are 8th graders! Amazing how time flies! Thank you for being a blessing in my life this year!
Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,
Only 2 more of these updates to write... including this one! I know that you all have worked hard to give the graduates of the 8th grade class a splendid evening! THANK YOU for all you have each done to give them such great memories!
Please remember that we are all supposed to wear our uniforms Tuesday of this week. We are supposed to take an all school picture first thing in the morning. Because we are wearing our uniforms on Tuesday, the students do not need to wear them on Wednesday. Please remember, though, that we DO still have church on Wednesday, so appropriate dress is still expected.
Friday is our annual field day! It is not only the day of awesome field day activities, but it is the afternoon the "torch" is past and the 7th graders take on the leadership of the school! I have anticipated this day all year and I know the kids are looking forward to it. I hope you are able to join us for this tradition. It should be around 2:45 in the gym.
If you want to join us on our end of the year field trip, we would love to have you! Please just show up on Wednesday morning (June 3rd) and follow us on up to Devil's Lake. It is a fun day (pray for good weather) and we could use as many parents as want to come along!
Thank you again for a great year!
Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,
The countdown begins! 11.5 days left this year! Can you believe it? I am really struggling to believe that these kiddos will be 8th graders! This year has flown by!!! I have been blessed throughout this entire year by their kindness, patience and generous hearts! Thank you so much for sharing them with me. You are raising some spectacular young men and women!
This week:
Monday: The famous pig test is today. (a breeze if student has been a true participant this quarter)
Tuesday: SCRIP orders due by 10am; dress rehearsal in the afternoon; program starts at 7pm in the gym
Wednesday: We are celebrating Sr. Alfonso's 70th year of being a Dominican sister. We would love to see you at church at 8:45 if you are available! I will be gone in the afternoon at a doctor's appointment.
Thursday: regular day
Due dates are closer than they appear, so please help me to keep this kids on track the next couple weeks!
Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,
Hopefully you received my email late Friday morning. I updated you on all the upcoming due dates for various classes. I hope that giving you all that information will help you plan in the coming weeks.
Tuesday: Don't forget your SCRIP orders
Wednesday: science articles due (7 of them)
Thursday and Friday: Safety patrol students are gone to the Dells
The pig dissection is complete! I was telling 2 of the moms on Friday about how proud I am of these students. I really wasn't sure how things would go and by far this was one of the VERY best class pig dissections we've had! Pure Awesomeness!!
Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,
What a beautiful weekend! I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy the sunshine! :)
I am so proud of the accomplishments of the 7th graders. The pig dissection is going so well. Each student has moved out of his/her comfort zone and dug in with both hands. We hope to finish up the dissection at some point this week. Next week we will study for the upcoming test; it is scheduled for May 18th.
The Student Council is selling .25 raffle tickets this week for a free lunch supplied by a teacher.
Happy Cinco de Mayo on Tuesday! Don't forget your SCRIP orders are due by 10am.
Wednesday evening is BINGO up in the Parish Center. First number is called at 6:30pm.
Hope it is a blessed week!
Many blessings,

Dear Parents,
Tomorrow is the long awaited (good or bad) day for...... PIG DISSECTION! We will be dissecting for the next 2 weeks or so. If you ever want to stop by, feel free! Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays we have science first thing in the morning (8:30-9:10). Wednesdays, I decided to switch up the schedule a bit and have the dissection at the end of the day instead of right after lunch. (Hoping to avoid any upset tummies...) I am sure the kids would love to share their learning with you if you want to stop in at some point.
Please help your child remember that he/she needs to be preparing for the upcoming "pig test". It is scheduled for May 18th. Each student received the study guide at the beginning of the pig unit, just after spring break. I expect great things from the students because there has been plenty of time to prepare.
News articles are, also, still due this quarter. The 7 articles are due May 13th.
I hope you are enjoying the spring weather!
Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,
What a great time was had by all on Saturday night! Thank you so much for all who helped out with the planning and carrying out of such an event! :) I hope you all had as much fun as I did! I saw lots of smiles and high fives!
This week is one of the last "normal" weeks of school before we begin end of the year craziness! We will finish up our virtual pig dissection on Tuesday at the end of class. We will complete a skeletal lab on Wednesday and a muscle lab on Thursday. April 27th is the day we begin the actual pig dissection. The students seem to be getting anxious about it!
Enjoy the spring weather and let's finish the year strong!
Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,
On the eve of the HOPEFUL Badger win, I sit down to write the update! Regardless of the outcome, I am so proud of this team. The men on the team have provided such a great example for our young people both in Madison and nation wide. I hope you've had a chance to watch some of the interviews posted by the Badgers; they are funny, tasteful and honest.
OK, this week we are back at it! There are only 7 Mondays left in the year, so we need to buckle down and stay focused on finishing strong! Here's the upcoming week:
Tuesday: We are starting our Virtual Pig Dissection (VPD). The students will work at their own pace with this part of the unit being completed by the end of class on April 21st. This is easily doable, so no need to be concerned about not finishing in time.
Wednesday: We celebrate the resurrection of Christ in our "Easter" mass. I hope you are able to join us at 8:45 in the church.
Thursday: The 5th graders will join the middle school students in "a day in the life of a middle schooler". The shadow day is one that gives the 5th graders some real hands-on experiences of "living at the other end of the building".
Friday: Just a regular day for us! :)

Dear Parents,
I will say it one more time... I am so proud of your kids! The science fair is complete and they each did such an awesome job!
This week starts the beginning of the 4th quarter, can you believe that? We will start the virtual pig dissection when we get back from spring break and then the real dissection begins. I can't wait to get the students involved in this unit. They almost always begin very hesitant and end like a surgeon!
This week at a glance:
*Monday: regular day
*Tuesday: morning schedule is switched up due to the 7th graders sharing their LA papers with the younger students
*Wednesday: 7th/8th graders lead the Stations of the Cross (1:30-2:30); We would love for you to join us!
*Thursday: MAEFAR project is due at the end of science class
*Friday: Jumprope for Heart all afternoon!
SPRING BREAK! Happy Easter!
Many blessings,
Kim

Happy St. Patty's Day... almost!
Dear Parents,
I can not begin to tell you how proud I am of each of your kids. The science fair was a complete success. I am currently almost 1/2 done with grading each project. I promise to have the results to the kids by Friday at the latest, hopefully by Wednesday. I feel bad it is taking so long, but I am trying to be thorough.
Get that SCRIP ordered by Tuesday at 10am!
Mass is on Wednesday morning and we have reconciliation scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
The end of the quarter is on Friday. I am so amazed that 4th quarter is next week. This year seems to have flown by. Next week is crazy busy and then.... spring break!
Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,
Many, many thanks go out to all of the awesome help at Trivia Knight. I believe it was a true success in every aspect! The past committee sure did a great job establishing an excellent evening of fun!
This week is busy...
Monday: We will finish up our presentations for the science fair. They've truly gone so well! I am really proud of the 7th graders.
Tuesday: We will set up the gym around 11:30. The kids will eat lunch as normal. We will be in the gym from 1pm until 3pm. If you are unable to join us in the evening, feel free to come by in the afternoon. The students need to be at his/her spot by 5:55pm and will be finished by 8:05pm. It is my hope to have help breaking down the set up if possible. The most important piece is the FINAL DRAFT of the paper must be left with me at the end of the evening.
Wednesday: Church is at 8:45 and we hope to see you there.
Thursday and Friday should be normal days of school.
Take care,
Kim

Dear Parents,
Big week coming up! Science fair rough drafts are due this week! Q-Z (last names) are due Tuesday; H-P (last names) are due Wednesday; and A-G (last names) are due Thursday. Couple things to remember:
1. Rough draft must be edited and signed by a parent.
2. Try not to use the word "I" or "you" in any part of the paper, with the exception of the acknowledgements.
3. Rough draft must have the bibliography.
4. No need to print anything in color.
Please feel free to join us at the Parish Mission. It begins on Sunday and goes through Tuesday. The event takes place from 6:30-7:30 in the church. We hope you can join us at least one of the nights.
Friday, the middle schoolers are going to the Chazen Museum with Mrs. Brocktrup. If you haven't sent in the permission slip and the $3, please do so, asap.
Have a great week!
Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,
The ski trip was a complete success! I am so proud of this group of kids. I really appreciate how easy the day was and all the help from the parents. I will admit that I am still a tad sore, but I had a great time!
Last week, the 7th and 8th graders turned in their data and research. Just a couple helpful hints for the upcoming turn in date (Wednesday). Wednesday and Thursday are both in class work days.
1. The more data the more accurate results. Many students have only one set of results. I highly recommend gathering more data before their analysis and conclusions are due on Wednesday.
2. The rough draft that is due next week... must be edited and signed by you, before handed in to me. It also must be typed. Trust me, this will make completing the final copy 100% easier.
3. USE THE PACKET... The packet I sent home is so full of information and details. I have also shared the documents with your child via their email.
Wednesday is also Ash Wednesday! No school on Friday!
This coming Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights are the Parish Mission. It will be from 6:30-7:30 in the church. We would love to have you and your family join us in this time of prayer, song and reflection.
Many blessings,
Kim

FEBRUARY, YES, FEBRUARY 2, 2015
Dear Parents,
Still in shock that February is here! Boy did it come in a blustery, snowy way!!! As I write this, I am sure the kids are all hoping for a snow day tomorrow, but honestly guys and gals, I think we'll be in school! Sorry... maybe I'll be wrong (which would be ok with me)!
Last week was absolutely amazing!!!! A huge thank you to every single parent who had anything to do with the week. The kids had a great time! Also, THANK YOU to Ms. Romaniak, who did the majority of the planning / organizing for / of the events!
We are back to a regular week! As far as I can tell there isn't anything "special" going on this week during school hours. BINGO now on Wednesday and it happens this week. Don't forget your SCRIP orders need to be in by Tuesday at 10am.
Many blessings,
Kim
ps. I hope that those science fair projects are in process! The data must be collected by February 11th and turned in with research. If you have concerns or questions please let me know!

Dear Parents,
I am sorry to be so late on my weekly update....
Tuesday starts the new quarter/ 2nd semester! The electives change as do reading classes. I hope that the changes in schedules goes smoothly. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns. Tuesday is also the band concert. It is at 9am in the gym. I love these concerts, as a former "band geek", I love watching the kids learn to love this activity. Finally, there is a spaghetti dinner from 5-7 in the gym. The Knights of Columbus are in charge and are giving all the proceeds to help the people of Belize. Tickets are sold at the door. I hope you can join us!
Wednesday is the 1st class with a new reading teacher. There are many similarities between the way Mr. Pothof and I teach, but there are several differences, too. Be sure to ask questions if you have them.
Thursday is our next science fair work day. Many students came prepared to work last week, but there were just as many unprepared. Please be sure your child comes prepared to work, as this is prime opportunities for them to run their experiment and ask me questions. Thursday is also a forensics competition and the kids leave school a bit early. We hope they all "break a leg". I am sure it will go well, they seem very comfortable with their performances.
Friday, I hope to see many of you at the dinner. I hope you know that I appreciate each and every one of you more than you will ever know. I am so grateful for your thoughts, prayers and support! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
Many blessings,
Kim

Dear Parents,
We survived the bitter cold weather last week! Not one recess outside all week... We got a little restless by the end of the week, but hopefully there will be many opportunities to get out this coming week.
Friday is the end of the 2nd quarter! Can you believe we are 1/2 way through the year? The next 2 quarters will be VERY busy and as it goes, your child will have more and more responsibilities. I have watched each of your children grow amazing amounts this year! I am so proud of their accomplishments and can't wait to see what the last 2 quarters will bring. Please remember to keep the communication lines open with me. I am always available via email. I check it frequently throughout the day and many times through the weekend. Please stay in touch!
There are no real announcements for the upcoming week. Please note that there is NO SCHOOL next Monday.
Couple reminders:
*SCRIP orders due on Tuesday by 10am.
*Friday is the end of the quarter.
*Report cards will come out sometime next week, but you can always look online at current grades.
*Keep up with those science fair due dates... Thursday is our first in class work day.
*Next Tuesday night from 5-7 is a spaghetti dinner sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. This is a fundraiser for the annual Belize Mission Trip. If you want more details or to buy tickets, please let me know. I can get you tickets. ($8 per person)
*Catholic Schools Week is in 2 weeks! :0)
Many blessings,
Kim
